The Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) has launched a nationwide “Collective Furniture Appeal” to mobilise support for schools facing critical shortages of classroom furniture.
The campaign, under GETFund’s Education Financing and Partnership Initiative, targets primary and secondary schools across the country where pupils currently share desks or learn in uncomfortable conditions.
GETFund said the appeal is part of government’s broader commitment to strengthening the education sector and ensuring equitable access to quality learning. It aligns with President John Dramani Mahama’s vision of transforming education through strategic partnerships and shared national responsibility.
“Despite government’s sustained investment in educational infrastructure, furniture deficits remain a challenge in many communities,” GETFund stated. “Addressing these gaps requires a collective national effort that complements ongoing government interventions.”
The Fund is calling on corporate Ghana, alumni associations, NGOs, development partners, traditional authorities, religious bodies, philanthropists and the general public to donate new or gently used classroom furniture.
Items needed include students’ metal mono and dual desks and chairs, bunk beds, teachers’ tables and chairs, and other learning essentials required to create safe and conducive learning environments.
Since its establishment, GETFund has financed educational infrastructure across the country. Through EFPI, the Fund said it is expanding avenues for the private sector, civil society, faith-based institutions and individuals to contribute directly to education development.
The Collective Furniture Appeal follows numerous requests from schools nationwide seeking support to furnish classrooms and dormitories.
GETFund added that the initiative complements government’s ongoing investments in infrastructure, teaching and learning resources, and policies aimed at improving learning outcomes.
Details on donation points and coordination will be provided through GETFund’s regional offices and partner institutions in the coming weeks.
