Sammi Awuku Denies EOCO Arrest

Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, yesterday denied reports suggesting that he was arrested by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) on Saturday, August 15, 2026.

Mr. Awuku, in a widely circulated video with popular National Democratic Congress (NDC) sympathiser, Appiah Stadium, in Kumasi, denied claims of his alleged arrest by the anti-graft agency.

There were reports, mainly on social media, that Sammi Awuku was arrested on Saturday for alleged corruption-related offences during his tenure as the Director-General of the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

But the MP categorically denied the report of his arrest, indicating that he had been in Kumasi the whole time for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP’s) regional election which was held on Saturday across the country.

He wondered how he could be standing with Appiah Stadium on Sunday morning if he was arrested on Saturday as alleged by the reports.

“Claims that I was arrested are not true. Today is Sunday, and yesterday that they said I was detained, we had our regional elections, and I was part. And today (Sunday) I have come to meet you here in Kumasi,” he said in the video.

Appiah Stadium then suggested that Mr. Awuku has no reason to be worried about being arrested by EOCO, indicating that he has no questions to answer regarding his tenure at NLA.

“Even if the EOCO boss arrests him, he will eventually give him money to go home. He can’t arrest him. What is he arresting him for,” Appiah Stadium enquired.
