Ga Mantse exchanging pleasantries with Oguahene at the Fetu Afahye Durbar
Cape Coast came alive on Saturday as the ancient city erupted in colour, rhythm and royalty for the Grand Durbar of the 62nd Oguaa Fetu Afahye Festival.
The historic Victoria Park was transformed into a theatre of culture as talking drums thundered, horns blared and Asafo warriors danced with mastery, their feet pounding the ground in perfect sync with war chants and appellations.
The moment that stole the show was the majestic entrance of the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, whose arrival added regal grandeur to the coastal celebration.
Preceded by his fierce Asafoatse warriors, the Ga King did not come to play. Clad in rich kente and gold ornaments, his warriors charged ahead, chanting morale songs, firing musket salutes and displaying dexterous dance moves that set the crowd ablaze.
Asafoatse’s morale before Ga Mantse storms Fetu Afahye 2026 Durbar, charged the atmosphere as onlookers cheered the Ga delegation for embodying bravery, discipline and tradition.
In a beautiful historic moment, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, King and Overlord of the Gonja Kingdom, also made a majestic arrival at the durbar grounds.
Earlier, Vice President Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang had paid a courtesy call on the Oguaamanhen, Osabarima Kwesi Atta II, at the Emintsimadze Palace, where she donated items and support ahead of the grand celebration.
The climax came when the host, Oguaamanhen Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II stormed the durbar grounds in a palanquin, resplendent in gold, surrounded by his council of chiefs, queen mothers, priests and priestesses.
