The Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has donated food items and other essential supplies to inmates of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, where he also visited the former Ashanti Regional NPP Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi.
The donation, made on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, included bags of rice, maize, gari, sugar, milk, bottled water and other provisions to support the feeding needs of inmates.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, was accompanied by constituency executives during the visit, which he described as part of his humanitarian responsibility to support the welfare of persons in custody.
He said his position as the representative of the constituency in which the prison is located made it necessary for him to extend assistance to the facility and its inmates.
The MP said the donation was intended to help address some of the immediate needs of inmates, particularly as the year draws to a close.
He acknowledged that the supplies might not be sufficient to meet all the needs of the prison but described the gesture as a modest contribution towards improving the welfare of inmates.
Mr Annoh-Dompreh urged the prison authorities to ensure that the donated items reached the inmates for whom they were intended.
A prison officer, on behalf of the Officer-In-Charge of the Nsawam Medium Security Prison, Deputy Director of Prisons (DDP) Patrick Thomas Seidu,
who received the items on behalf of the Ghana Prisons Service, expressed appreciation to the MP and his entourage.
He conveyed the gratitude of the Director-General of Prisons and staff to the MP for the support.
He also offered prayers for Mr. Annoh Dompreh’s health, long life and continued well-being, adding that God should replenish the resources spent on the donation.
The visit also provided Mr. Annoh-Dompreh an opportunity to meet Chairman Wontumi, who is being held at the Nsawam prison facility.
The donation forms part of a series of interventions the MP has undertaken at the prison this year.
These include the provision of paint and support for medical screening exercises aimed at improving conditions at the facility and promoting inmate welfare.
