Rapper and entrepreneur, D-Black, has expressed disappointment over the number of radio and television stations paying royalties to the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO).

“The only stations paying royalties to the Ghanaian musician via GHAMRO all these years, 16 out of 700+. @ghamroonline. Sadly!!!” he wrote in a social media post.

His reaction followed a meeting with GHAMRO’s new Chief Executive Officer, during which he was shown a list of broadcast stations reportedly meeting their music royalty obligations.

According to the report, only 16 out of more than 700 radio and television stations in Ghana are paying royalties through the organisation.

Eight of the stations identified as compliant belong to the Multimedia Group Limited. They are Adom FM, Nhyira FM, Joy Prime, Adom TV, Luv FM, Asempa FM, Hitz FM and Joy FM.

GHAMRO has stressed that compliance with copyright laws and music licensing requirements is essential to ensuring that musicians, songwriters and publishers are compensated for the use of their creative works.

The organisation also commended the stations recognised in its 2026 list of top-compliant broadcasting channels, describing their compliance as a contribution to the growth of Ghana’s creative economy.

D-Black’s comments have brought renewed attention to the issue of royalty payments in the broadcasting industry and the need for music creators to receive compensation when their works are played on radio and television.
