Chris Brown
American R&B star, Chris Brown, has avoided immediate jail time after receiving an eight-month suspended sentence for attacking music producer, Abraham Diaw, with a tequila bottle at a London nightclub in 2023.
The 37-year-old was sentenced at Southwark Crown Court on Monday, October 26, after pleading guilty to affray over the incident at Tape nightclub in Mayfair.
The sentence is suspended for 12 months, meaning Chris will not serve the jail term unless he breaches the conditions.
The court heard that he struck Diaw twice on the head with a glass bottle. His friend and vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who also participated in the attack, received a four-month suspended sentence. Both men were ordered to pay £1,500 in costs.
Judge Tony Baumgartner described the use of a glass bottle in the attack as dangerous, warning that it could have caused more serious injuries. Diaw was taken to hospital with head and knee injuries.
Chris Brown and Omololu Akinlolu initially faced more serious charges, including attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, but pleaded guilty to affray in July, resulting in the more serious charges being dropped.
Chris Brown was arrested in May 2025 and later granted bail after providing £5 million in security, allowing him to continue his tour.
The singer, known for hits such as ‘Run It!’ and ‘Forever’, was previously convicted of assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009.
