Former President John Agyekum Kufuor is set to be honoured at the 30th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Media Awards scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026.

The recognition will form part of activities marking the 30th anniversary of the prestigious awards scheme, which celebrates excellence, professionalism and the contribution of journalists to Ghana’s democratic governance and national development.

The ceremony will bring together prominent political leaders, traditional rulers, members of the diplomatic corps, media executives and other distinguished personalities to celebrate outstanding achievements in journalism.

President John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend as Special Guest of Honour and Keynote Speaker, while the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Patron of the GJA, is also expected to grace the occasion.

Other distinguished guests include the Ga Mantse, King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who is expected to chair the ceremony, Speaker of Parliament Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, and Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie.

The 30th edition is being held under the theme: “Celebrating Excellence, Advancing Media Freedom and Combating Hate Speech in the Digital Age.”

The awards seek to recognise outstanding journalistic contributions while promoting ethical standards, media freedom and responsible journalism in an increasingly digital media environment.

The GJA has expressed appreciation to its Awards Committee, chaired by veteran journalist Kobby Asmah, for overseeing the adjudication process and selecting this year’s nominees.

The ceremony is expected to attract more than 1,000 invited guests.
