Daddy Bosco
Veteran reggae broadcaster, Daddy Bosco, has refuted claims that reggae is dead in Ghana, describing the assertion as the “wildest imagination”.
He argues that the genre remains highly influential and successful within the local music scene.
Speaking on the Group Chat Podcast hosted by ace broadcaster Nana Aba Anamoah, Daddy Bosco cited several artistes whose success is rooted in reggae and dancehall.
He identified Moliy as a significant musical export, noting that her sound is rooted in reggae dancehall.
“Oh, that’s the wildest imagination. If you ask somebody who was the biggest export last year, who was doing waves, they will call a lady called Moliy. Yeah, Moliy’s song without a doubt is Reggae Dancehall,” he said.
He also pointed to Samini, who, he noted, started out as a hiplife artiste before revealing his true identity through reggae.
“Samini started out as a hiplife guy and now he’s revealed his real identity,” he stated.
According to Daddy Bosco, many of Ghana’s top acts, including Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale and Samini, draw heavily from reggae influences, even if they are often boxed into other genres.
He stressed that reggae’s versatility and enduring influence continue to shape Ghanaian popular music, with artistes no longer just chasing trends but staying true to the genre’s roots.
