Accept All Party Candidates – Togbe Afede Advises Volta Chiefs

President of the Volta regional House of Chiefs Togbe Afede XIV has advised chiefs in the region to open their arms to all candidates irrespective of their political parties as the elections draws closer.

According to him, it will be detrimental to the growth of the region if the chiefs there were to choose sides in the upcoming polls.

“Let’s welcome all the candidates. Grant access to all…this is very important for the unity of our region and development of the country. As chiefs let your conduct promote and cement peace in the country,” Togbe Afede told the House of chiefs at its Second General Meeting in the Volta region.

The Volta region is traditionally a stronghold of the ruling National Democratic Congress. The region has often propelled the party to victory with huge turn out during elections.

President Mahama and Nana Akufo-Addo of the New Patriotic Party are the frontrunners in the elections. Nana Akufo-Addo is making his third consecutive chase at the Flagstaff House while President Mahama, who ascended the throne after the demise of his boss John Atta Mills in 2012, will be making a second term attempt.
