A release signed by Sandra Faul, World Para Powerlifting competition coordinator, International Paralympic Committee, said, ā€œWe are glad to inform you that the Accra 2021 para powerlifting invitational competition is approved by WPPO as follows.ā€

It added that six national paralympic committees are expected to participate in the competitionĀ and the results of all the registeredĀ and licensed athletes will be recognised in the world rankings.

A two-day educational course scheduled for February 16 to February 17 is expected to precede the high-profile competition. It will be followed by classification from February 17 to 18, while the competition begins from February 19 to 21.

The President of the National Paralympic Committee, Ghana, Samson Deen, has described the approval as welcome news and has pledged to put his outfit in order to deliver a top-class event.

He said, ā€œThis is, indeed, welcome news. My executives and I consider this as a fine opportunity to showcase to the entire world what we are capable of regarding tournament hosting.

ā€œWe are already engaging some level-headed persons to form committed committees who will be tasked to discharge their various duties with tact and professionalism. The good news is should we deliver as expected of us which we would, we stand the chance of hosting the 2022 World Cup and it will definitely help our preparations for the 2022 Commonwealth Games,ā€ Samson added.

The sixth national invitational competition will attract Italy, Russia and four yet-to-be named African countries for the showpiece in Accra next year.
