Ahanta West MP Denies Resigning

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ahanta West in the Western Region, Ebenezer Kojo Kum, has rejected reports that he has resigned or wants to resign as MP.

There have been media reports that the Ahanta West MP wanted to resign from the legislative assembly due to protracted ill-health.

It would be recalled that Kojo Kum, who doubled as the Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, resigned from the ministerial position in February this year allegedly on health grounds.

Immediately after that, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency demanded that Mr. Kum should also resign as MP of the area.

In an open letter to the MP, the NDC said the constituency was lagging behind in terms of development due to the MP’s continuous ill-health, which has affected his ability to function effectively.

However, speaking in an interview yesterday, the Ahanta West MP refuted the reports saying, “I have not written any letter to the party informing them of my intention to step down as an MP. As I speak to you, I am on my way to Parliament for the mid-year budget review.”

Mr. Kum also refuted assertions by the constituency NDC that no developmental projects are going on in his constituency.

He mentioned the ongoing regional hospital and the Agenda 111 projects as well as a number of schools and other projects initiated by him that had not stalled.

On whether or not he would contest the seat in the next general elections, he indicated that the NPP would open nominations in areas where the party has sitting MPs in the later part of this year or early next year, adding, “So we will cross the bridge when we get there.”

“I will urge my constituents to continue to remember me in their prayers, and I believe that with God all things are possible,” he added.
