The Ghana National Gas Company in collaboration with Quantum gas in the Western Region has cut the sod to commence the construction of a mini hospital at Aiyinase in the Ellembelle District of the region to help improve healthcare delivery in the area.

The 20-bed health facility is expected to be completed within 12 months at a total cost of $2,860,000.

When completed, the facility will have an out-patient, diagnostic, in- patient, maternity, nursing mothers’ shelter, administration block, a service yard, staff accommodation, canteen, and security post.

Board member of Ghana Gas, Stephen Nanyina, said the existing Aiyinase health centre falls short in catering for the critical medical needs and concerns of the people.

He said Ghana National Gas Company and Quantum Terminal PLc, as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) came together to expand the existing facility to a full-fledged primary health care center.

He explained that out of the total cost, $ 2, 112,577 will be used for the construction of the project and $747, 458 will be used to purchase medical equipment for the facility.

The Ellembelle District Director of Health, Dr. Augustine Amoako mentioned that the 20-bed facility would improve maternal health and ease the overwhelming burden on Eikwe hospital.

“This is because any pregnancy that will require blood transfusion or caesarean section will have to end up at Eikwe hospital,” he said.

The Senior Manager, Community Relations and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of Ghana Gas, Stephen Donkor, said, “We are giving back to the community for the support the people have also given to the company”.

The Ellembelle District Chief Executive, Kwasi Bonzoh disclosed that the Aiyinase community is the biggest in the district in terms of population and commercial activities and was hopeful that the health facility would offer quality healthcare to the people.
