Akuapem South Assembly Outline Measures To Combat Covid-19 Spread

The Akuapem South District Assembly in the Eastern Region has announced measures to prevent a possible spread of the virus in the municipality.

The District Chief Executive, Frank Addo, told DGN Online that since the lockdown was imposed there has been influx of people from Accra into the area due to its proximity.

He said the District Security Committee at a meeting with stakeholders emphasized that “The security services together with the unit committee, chiefs, opinion leaders and Assembly Members should mount checkpoints at all entry points to the municipality to properly track, trace and monitor their movements.

“This would enable the assembly to adequately arm itself to rapidly respond with the right measures especially issue regarding mandatory quarantine, contact tracing amongst others in case of a positive test.”

He said that “all businesses except those providing essential services should begin work by 10 am and close at 8 pm. Citizens and guests of the municipality are also urged to as much as possible limit their movements and stay at home when not attending to important activities.”

The MCE said the assembly has persistently encouraged the public to adhere to all six World Health Organization (WHO) safety protocols in order to prevent the virus.

“Social groupings and visitations should be discouraged completely. A task force shall ensure that unnecessary groupings are not entertained and if there is any need for a grouping, all the safety protocols must be observed,” the MCE said.
