This year’s edition of the annual Akwaaba Festival being organized to celebrate Ghanaian culture and heritage, has been officially launched at a colourful ceremony held at the National Theatre last Friday.
A variety of celebrities graced the launch ceremony, including Ras Caleb Appiah-Levi, veteran actor David Dontoh, and Akumaa Mama Zimbi.
Attendees at the event included members of the media, Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) representatives, and several creative industry stakeholders.
The three-day Akwaaba Festival will begin with an opening ceremony at the National Theatre on March 6 and run through March 8, 2024.
Among the numerous fascinating site attractions of the event are the sale and display of Ghanaian art and crafts, traditional fabrics and accessories, native beverages, and a food bazaar.
As people flocked to the launch to see the programme requirements for the celebration, anticipation and hopes for the main event’s activities were already strong.
The Ghana Tourism Authority’s Deputy Director of Corporate Affairs, Kofi Atta Kakra Kusi, spoke during the launch and reaffirmed the organisation’s support for the festival.
He promised that as part of its global promotion goal, GTA is making every effort to elevate the programme.
“GTA pledges its continuous support and cooperation for the promotion and development of domestic tourism in Ghana through the network, collaboration, and partnership of Akwaaba Festival,” he stated.
Nonetheless, he applauded the festival’s organisers for their initiative and highlighted how well it had impacted the interest of the youth in the travel, arts, and cultural industries.
A two-day free music event organised by the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) will also provide audiences with an endless supply of Ghanaian music. In April, Miss Akwaaba’s second season will also be outdoored.
The 2024 Akwaaba Festival is organised by Ceejay Multimedia in partnership with MUSIGA and supported by the Ghana Tourism Authority.
