Akwatia NPP Holds Fresh Elections

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership has resolved to conduct fresh elections in the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region to elect new party leadership.

This follows a ruling by the Koforidua High court against the Party and directed that there should be fresh elections in Akwatia from polling stations, electoral areas to constituency executives after a suit filed by a party member last year.

It would be recalled that old Executives of the Akwatia Constituency were sworn into office because there were no internal elections in the constituency.

Before the election of the new NPP Regional Chairman for the Eastern Region, there were calls on him to ensure that fresh elections are held in the constituency for executives to be representatives of the members of the political party.

In a memo sighted by DGN Online, the party’s leadership at the National level tasked the Regional Executive Committee to liaise with all stakeholders to provide timelines for the election of Polling station executives, Electoral Area Coordinators, and Constituency Executives for Akwatia Constituency.

Following the instructions from the Party Headquarters, the Eastern Regional Communication Director, Evans Osei Yeboah in a statement noted that “Under the National directives, there will be an opening of Nominations for the Polling stations on 20th January, and closed on 22nd January 2023.

According to him, the vetting process will take place on the 23rd & 24th of January 2023, follows by an appeal on the 25th of January 2023, as the main voting takes place on the 27th & 28th of January 2023.

Also, it will be followed by the elections of Electoral Area Coordinators from 29th January 2023 to 2nd February as the main constituency elections take place from 3rd February to 11th February 2023.

“The Regional Leadership assures all stakeholders that utmost fairness, transparency, and equity shall prevail in every step of the process. Therefore, we encourage everyone to cooperate with officers that will be assigned to carry out the various electoral tasks and at all times, adhere to all related rules and regulations” the statement said.
