All is set for the maiden Oswal Famers’ Day Cycling Race, scheduled for December 1, organisers of the event, Gladiators and the Ghana Cycling Federation have said.
The initiative primarily seeks to promote healthy lifestyle, domestic tourism as well as join in the commemoration of this year’s Farmers’ Day celebration.
And starting from The School Junction, East Legon, the men category will do a total of 112 km; making ten laps, while their female counterparts are expected to do 56km (5 laps).
Registration is currently in progress on the gladiator’s website for a cool rate of GH¢20.
At stake is GH¢10,000 for the men’s category and GH¢5,000, GH¢3,000 and GH¢2,000 for the female, juniors and U-23 categories respectively.
At the press launch in Accra on Wednesday, Chief Gladiator, Kojo Graham, mentioned that the sport has been used as a useful tool to change lives.
He cited the distribution of bicycles to some village folks as a classical example saying, “…we have embarked on many life-changing programmes like – changing lives through the pedal. Look forward to do what is expected of us and a successful race.”
Representatives of the Ghana Ambulance Service and the Ghana Police Service were present to share some safety and precautionary tips.
The event, which will be held annually, is being sponsored by Oswal Investments Limited and supported by DHL, and Ghana By Bike (GBB).
