Residents of Amasu, a farming community in the Dormaa East District, are calling for the immediate arrest of suspects involved in the killing of Issahaku Ansu, 16, at an illegal mining site in the area by unknown assailants on Sunday, August 31, 2025.
The residents said that following the incident, they had been thrown into a state of fear, thereby calling on the police to intensify visibility and speed up the investigation processes to help bring the perpetrators to book.
Confirming the tragic incident, the Bono Regional Police Command stated that they found the victim’s body with multiple gunshot wounds to the back, indicating that the shots were fired from a distance.
The statement, signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, noted, “Investigations suggest that the victim was shot from a nearby bush while engaged in illegal mining activities, causing others at the site to flee.”
The body has since been deposited at the Dormaa Ahenkro Presbyterian Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The Bono Regional Police Command has vowed to intensify its investigation to find the suspects responsible for the heinous crime.
