Madam Amma Busia
Madam Amma Busia was 82 yesterday a day after former President Agyekum Kufuor marked his 80th. Those who describe Anti Amma, as she is fondly called, as the mother of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are not wrong because that is the role she is playing informally and indefatigably at her Abelenkpe home in Accra.
Party supporters who are aggrieved over issues pertaining to their beloved political grouping turn to her waiting arms to be soothed with the kind words of encouragement of the elder of the NPP who played a crucial role in the heady days of the party’s history before the last elections. Although this sister of the late academic and Prime Minister Dr. K.A. Busia would have preferred a low-key observation of the milestone, many who heard about her turning 82 went to her house to wish her well.
