Anxiety Mounts Over Chief Inspectors’ Exam

IGP Christian Tetteh Yohuno

Anxiety is mounting within the inspectorate bracket of the Ghana Police Service following a yet-to-be confirmed information that a total of 500 Chief Inspectors out of the 7,500 who undertook the April 12, 2026 Police Competitive Promotional Examination (PCPE) passed.

Sources in the Police Service revealed that out of the 500 Chief Inspectors, only 200 will be picked for the six-month cadet course at the Police Academy.

While the paper awaits official publication from the Police Service on the matter, many of the Chief Inspectors have been instructed to visit the Police CID headquarters for their final result pickup.

The Police Competitive Promotional Examination was designed to select the best candidates to transition from junior officer ranks (Chief Inspector) to senior officer ranks (Assistant Superintendent of Police) after the Academy or College course.

Ahead of the examination, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, admonished all the candidates to put in maximum efforts to be able to meet the pass mark.

He stated that the examination would be based solely on merit, with only qualified candidates selected for the Cadet Officers course.

He also assured the Chief Inspectors before the examination that the Police

Administration does not have any hand in the selection process.

“It is only your performance that will speak for you. So put in all your best. Nobody from anywhere is going to favour anybody ahead of anyone,” he said.

“So don’t listen to all the rumours. Just concentrate on your studies, and if you are able to meet the pass mark, you will be given the opportunity,” he told the candidates at the time.
