Asamoah Gyan
Former Black Stars Captain, Asamoah Gyan, finally broke his silence on news that a High Court in Accra had given two of his houses (one at Spintex in Accra and another in the UK), two cars and a filling station to his ex-wife, Gifty Gyan.
The Ghanaian football legend, in an initial reaction to news items about the court’s decision, posted a cryptic message on X (formerly Twitter) which read: “If I have 10pts [10 points] and I keep quiet cos [because] I’m matured, and you have 2pts and you [are] going [to] find public sympathy, then it’s cool. This is deep so think about it [three laughing emojis].”
The post was wildly translated by many to mean Asamoah Gyan was not moved by the ‘little’ properties he had lost to a woman who he later said did not regret marrying.
A High Court in Accra presided over by Justice Hafisata Ameleboba, now a Justice of the Court of Appeal, awarded the properties to the former Black Stars Captain ex-wife as well as ordering him to pay a monthly allowance of GH¢25,000 for the upkeep of their three children.
Asamoah Gyan had filed for divorce at the court and denied fathering their three children, demanding a DNA test which later proved that all three children were his biological children.
The court, in its judgment, issued a decree of nullity annulling the marriage between Asamoah Gyan and Gifty Gyan, celebrated in 2013.
The court turned down the $1 million demanded by the lady as alimony as well as other demands, including a claim to half of his properties.
The court, however, awarded her the two houses, the two cars which were gifted to her by Asamoah Gyan as well as the gas filling station which was already in his name.
Asamoah Gyan, in interview with Accra-based Asempa FM, said he had no regrets going into that marriage but he “decided to do the needful because of how things were being unraveled, I did my own investigations and saw the truth and I took it to court.”
“The reason why we went to the court was that, I annulled the marriage and my wish has been granted, because the things I unraveled were the truth,” Asamoah Gyan added.
His elder brother, Baffuor Gyan had earlier stated on the same platform that the court decision was a victory for the Gyans and was surprised a section of the public was trying to change the narrative.
He explained that the house at Spintex was a house Asamoah Gyan bought for the ex-wife, and it was even registered in her name, and it is where she lives with the children.
On the gas station at Prampram, Baffour Gyan said it was a plot of land Gifty bought to use as a gas filling station, that was also registered in her name.
He also revealed that the two cars in question are an Infiniti and a BMW.
