Ashaiman MP Is A Liar- EC

Jean Mensa

The Electoral Commission has described as false claims by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman, Ernest Henry Norgbey that his name was missing in the provisional voter roll.

According to the EC, the MP’s claim that some 21,000 names could not be traced from the new voter roll was also untrue.

The MP on some media platforms had said that “I was not worried when my name was not in there because I know there could be a mistake of that nature.

“But I quickly asked my people to check from all the centres. The total number of registrants in the register that was exhibited, when they brought the figures, juxtaposing it with what we had, we realised that they were missing from the register.”

However, a statement issued by the EC dated September 19, 2020 sighted by DGN Online said “The Member of Parliament is on record to have stated that the names of some 21,000 registered voters are missing from the register.

“The Commission wishes to state categorically that is false.”

“The Member of Parliament is also on record to have stated that his name is also not in the provisional register. Again, this is false.”

Meanwhile, the Commission has attached names and picture of registration details of the MP from portion of the register to prove their point.

It has therefore asked the public to disregard the statement of the MP who is gaining notoriety for peddling falsehood which they believed was one of his deliberate attempt to tarnish the credibility of the Commission.

The EC started the voter exhibition exercise on Friday, 18 September 2020.
