Haruna Umar
One Haruna Umar, a resident of Nima, a suburb of Accra, was last Saturday subjected to severe beatings after he tried to engage in acts of sodomy with another member of the community.
Haruna, a chronic sodomite in the area, was set up by one Jamal, with whom he allegedly attempted to have an affair. He was subsequently caught by the community’s youth group known as ‘volunteers’ when he made advances towards Jamal.
An eyewitness, James Abu, told this reporter that after he was beaten to pulp, his shop was vandalized and set ablaze.
“He was unconscious for sometime, with blood all over him and oozing from his mouth and nose. He sustained injuries all over his body including a broken knee,” the eyewitness said.
It was gathered that Sheikh Umar Issaka, Haruna’s father who is also a renowned Islamic scholar, upon hearing the news, said his son had brought shame to the family.
Another eye-witness, who wished to remain anonymous, said Haruna was set up by a guy whom he was trying to make advances on.
He was rescued by a pastor driving by, who took him away from the boys while he was unconscious, to hospital and later reported the case to the police.
Hours later, it was alleged that the angry volunteers burnt his room and belongings.
Haruna is from a family of renowned Muslim Scholars in Ghana, it was gathered.
