Ashaiman Robber Nabbed

Mohammed Mortay and the items retrieved from him

A member of an alleged notorious five-member robbery gang believed to be terrorising and robbing victims of their valuables at Ashaiman and its environs in the Greater Accra Region, was apprehended by the Tema Regional police last Friday.

The suspect, Mohammed Mortay, 39, was arrested at Obatanpa, a suburb of Zenu in the Kpone-Katamansu District where the gang allegedly converge to smoke before embarking on their robbery expeditions.

Briefing DAILY GUIDE, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Juliana Obeng, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Tema Regional Police Command, stated that the police who were on their daily night routine patrol, were spotted by the notorious robbers, who abruptly took to their heels upon seeing the police vehicle advancing towards them.

According to ASP Obeng, the policemen subsequently gave the robbers a hot chase which led to the arrest of Mohammed Mortay, as four others managed to escape.

She further stated that a search conducted on the suspected robber  revealed a locally manufactured pistol, a cartridge, an AK 47 ammunition, a knife, shell of a snail and a talisman.

According to ASP Obeng, the suspect is in police custody assisting with investigations to reveal the hideout of his accomplices.
