MORE THAN a month after the gun shooting incident that marred the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency by-election, personnel of the Ghana Police Service are still unable to retrieve some 37 suspected empty ammunition shells allegedly in the possession of an unnamed Wala Chief.

The Chief is alleged to have picked up the bullets at the scene of the shooting on January 31, 2019.

Detective Inspector Sulemana-Jallo Abdulai, testified before the Justice Emile Short Commission of Inquiry probing the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election shooting incident that on that day, he saw the chief near the residence of the NDC parliamentary candidate, Delali Kwasi Brempong with a plain rubber bag containing the shells.

He said demanded of the chief to hand over the shells over to him but he refused, saying he (chief) was taking the shells to the candidate.

He stated that ” I tried taking pictures but he told me in Hausa “Sulley, I don’t want my picture to show.”

He said he managed however to take pictures of the rubber bag. He showed the pictures to the Commission on his phone.

According to him, he took telephone details of the chief and has called severally since the election but he (chief) has not picked calls.

He assured the Commission that everything will be done this week to get the chief, claiming that he had visited the chief’s residence at Agbogloshie, a suburb of Accra but has not been fortunate to meet him.

However, he said the East Legon Police Command picked up three shells at the crime scene and has forwarded them for forensic check.
