SOME WORKERS and farmers of Ayensu Starch Factory in Awutu Bawjiase in the Awutu Senya West, Central Region, have staged a demonstration against the management of the factory.

The demonstrating farmers and workers are saying the government should take back the 70% shares in the factory because they claim the private investors are not managing it well.

According to the demonstrators the factory has not seen any major facelift since it was sold to a private company believed to be Zoomlion.

One of the leaders of the demonstration Denis Yaw Ofori Asante who doubles as the Accounts Officer of Ayensu Starch Factory claimed that the company had refused to pay farmers who supplied cassava to the company for production.

He also alleged that the workers have not been paid for over 18 months and there is no serious activity going on in the company.

He said, the company owes GH¢715,000 for electricity and GH¢180,000 for water and claimed that currently Ayensu Starch Factory had been disconnected from the national grid.

The demonstrators then presented their petition to the DCE for Awutu Senya West, Stephen Kwame Quaye who received it on behalf of the President and pledged to send it to the appropriate authorities.

The DCE later revealed that the whole issue was being determined in court and would not like to make prejudicial comments.
