‘Azali’, ‘94 Terror’ Lead 2019 Golden Movie Awards

Ghana and Uganda films? ‘Azali’ and ‘94 Terror’? have both received 18 nominations each to become the most leading films for the 2019 Golden Movie Awards Africa (GMAA).

Other contenders include ‘Adoma’ and ‘Levi’, which had 14 and 13 nods respectively. The rest of the films which have also done well include ‘Sylvia’, ‘Diamonds In The Sky’, ‘Lucky’ and a host of others films.

It is about the third movie awards ceremony ‘Azali’ has dominated on the African continent since it was released.

Adjetey Anang, the lead actor for ‘Azali’, is among Ghanaians who got nominations.

He is competing in best actor drama category with equally good actors such as Ramsey Noah ( Levi), John Dumelo ( Out of Bounds), Yasin Lubowa ( Ectra Time),  Chris Attoh ( Sylvia) and Mateega Smith ( 94 Terror).

The best actress drama category also has Ghana’s Christabel Ekeh and Asana Alhassan for their roles in ‘Adoma’ and ‘Azali’ respectively.

They are up against Minsima Ronah in ‘94 Terror’, Matilda Moza in ‘Out of Bounds’, Zainab Balogun in ‘Sylvia’ and Nancy Isime in ‘Levi’.

The best movie director also has Pascal Amanfo (Out of Bounds),  OKechukwu Okule ( Levi), Maxwell Akovi Amuwi (Adoma), Mulindwa Richard (94 Terror) and Kwabena Gyansah, the director of ‘Azali’ competing for the category.

The overall best movie category also includes ‘Azali’, together with ‘Levi’, ‘94 Terror’, ‘Diamonds In The Sky’, ‘Sylvia’ and ‘Adoma’.

The 2019 GMAA nominations were released on Friday night at a ceremony at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel, where the main award event will take place on August 24.

It was attended by a number of movie industry stakeholders, including Jackie Appiah, Zynnell Zuh, Ama K, Roger Quartey and others.

The GMAA is an award scheme that seeks to celebrate and promote the accomplishments of movie makers in Africa who have made tremendous efforts to promote the African film industries.

Since its inception in 2015, it has evolved into being one of the best award schemes on the continent. It has not only brought together many talented bigwigs in the African film industries but also created avenue for filmmakers to share ideas and find ways to advance the industries.

Powered by New Media Journey Ghana (NMJ), the GMAA promises to be an even more exciting this year.

The Director of GMAA, Mimi Andani Michaels, who spoke with NEWS-ONE, said her outfit has also introduced the GMAA Africa walk of fame.

This is a pre-honorary activity on the day of the main event for five legends who have been in the industry for more than five years and have contributed immensely to the growth of the film industry.

This innovation stems from the need to recognise the efforts of legends who have contributed to the success and growth of the film industry.

The five include Nadia Buari, Van Vicker, Roger Quartey, Jackie Appiah and Abdul Salam Mumuni.
