Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned the new St. Jude’s Catholic Church at New Weija, fulfilling a promise he made to Rev. Fr. Andrew Campbell.
The modern facility, which will serve the parish and the nearby Weija Leprosarium, comes complete with disability-friendly washrooms.
At the commissioning, Dr. Bawumia donated GH¢50,000 towards the running of the church and presented gifts to elderly women in the community.
Rev. Fr. Campbell praised the former Vice President for his reliable support for the poor, while a Queen Mother who was present described him as a caring man with God in him, highlighting his decade-long support for leprosy patients.
Dr. Bawumia has once again demonstrated his generosity and love for God and the church by sowing a seed of GH¢50,000 towards the activities of St. Jude’s Catholic Church, following his earlier significant contribution towards the completion of the building.
He has also pledged to support the church to complete the septic tank project which is yet to be finished, as promised to Rev. Fr. Campbell.
In a post on X after the ceremony, Dr. Bawumia wrote: “Earlier today, I had the honour of visiting St. Jude’s Catholic Church at New Weija, a church I was privileged, by God’s grace, to help build in fulfilment of a promise to my good friend and resident priest, Father Andrew Campbell.
Seeing the beautiful edifice today was deeply moving.”
