Bawumia Proposes National Fitness Day

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia has proposed that a National Fitness Day be observed every month.

Consequently, he has charged the Youth and Sports Minister, Mustapha Yussif, to institute it to become a permanent feature on the country’s sporting calendar.

The Vice President said even if it is observed religiously for just ten minutes across the country, it will have multiple health benefits on the populace.

At the commissioning of the Adjiringanor astro turf in  the Adentan Municipality recently, he mentioned that promoting fitness should be a key part of Ghana’s health care delivery system, hence his discussion with the Sports Ministry for the institution of a National Fitness Day.

He stated, “As a government, we are keen to see a healthy population as part of our health care delivery system, so we want to highly encourage community sports and fitness activities.

“It is for this reason that l have had discussions with the Sports Ministry to institute a National Fitness Day every month for every Ghanaian anywhere in the country to engage in a fitness activity even if for ten minutes.”

He pointed out that the astronomical rise of pitches from just two when they (NPP) assumed office to 54 should be highly commended.

The Adjiringanor astro turf is the latest of several pitches dotted across the nation in four years by the Akufo-Addo NPP-led administration.
