Graduates have been advised to be innovative and devise ways of utilizing their knowledge and skills acquired in school to earn incomes for themselves instead of looking for non-existing jobs that are deemed to be degree worthy.
Chairman of Enterprise Group PLC, Keli Gadzekpo, offered the advice in an interview with journalists on the sidelines of the African Development conference organized by Brigham Young University (BYU), Management Society held at the Headquarters of the Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Accra.
According to him, students should ‘figure out how to monetize whichever skill and knowledge they have gained in their fields of training and desist from the attitude of searching for jobs that directly corresponds to their certificate.
‘’Don’t worry even if you are washing cars with a degree, apply all the skills and knowledge you have and you will soon be the best in that area.
He, however, asked graduates who may be fortunate to find jobs to remain humble and learn from their superiors in order to acquire the needed skills required for them to start their businesses to support themselves and families as well as the larger society.
Africa Regional Director of BYU Management Society, Seth Ogoe Ayim, said the Ghanaian chapter which started in 2012 is to influence ethical and moral leadership around the world.
He said the organisation is also expected to mentor and provide the platform for young professionals to take advantage of opportunities available in their respective careers.
Executive Director, BYU, Jason Brown said graduates when mentored would be able to make the right choices in terms of educational path that will help them in their chosen career.
Over 600 people participated in the conference which was also preceded by a leadership conference.
