Boy, 8, In Hospital After Car Ran Over His Leg

AN EIGHT-YEAR-OLD boy is currently responding to treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi after a car accidentally ran over his right leg.

Karikari Douglas, the victim, was said to have suffered his ordeal around 7:10pm on January 4, 2024 at Sepaase Market area near Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region.

Mary Serwah, 33, mother of the injured child, reported the case to the Abuakwa Divisional Police Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) after the incident.

According to the police, Shadrack Owusu, the driver of the Deawoo Matiz taxi cab, which ran over her son’s leg, reported himself to the police together with the vehicle, the next day.

“On 04/01/2024 about 19:10hours, Mary Serwah, aged 33, called at Divisional MTTD office, and reported that same day about 14:00hours, Deawoo Matiz taxi cab with registration number GW 7118-19, driven by a driver she can identify when seen, ran over the right leg of her son Karikari Douglas, aged 8, when reversing around Sepaase market area.

“Victim sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in Kumasi where he was admitted for treatment.

“On 05/01/2024, suspected driver, Shadrack Owusu, aged 29, reported himself at the station together with the accident vehicle. He was detained and vehicle impounded for investigation.

Meanwhile, the police have visited the victim at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and “found him responding to treatment. The bone was not fractured.”
