Buipe Bridge Closed For Asphalt Overlay

The Ghana Highways Authority (GHA) has announced the closure of the Buipe Bridge in the Northern Region effective February 1, 2018.

The closure, according to the Authority, is to allow for asphalt overlay on the road after maintenance works on that stretch.

The bridge is expected to be closed for six hours daily starting from 7am to 1pm.

The GHA has therefore called on the public to cooperate with it to ensure the success of the exercise.

Meanwhile, alternate routes from the Western Corridor, Accra- Kumasi-Techiman-Wenchi-Bamboi-Bole-Wa,  the Eastern Corridors- Accra-Tema-Hohoe-Jasikan-Nkwanta-Oti Damanko-Bimbila-Yendi, the Central corridors- Accra- Kumasi-Mampong-Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji-Salaga or Kintampo-Techiman-Nkoranza-Ejura-Atebubu-Yeji, as well as the Western/Central Corridor- Takoradi-Tarkwa-Bogosu-Ayamfuri-Dunkwa-Obuasi-Kumasi-Techiman-Wenchi-Bamboi-Bole-Wa have been provided by the authorities for motorists.

After a month of repair, the Buipe bridge was opened to traffic in December last year.

The bridge, which developed major faults, was closed down late November to pave way for maintenance works.

However, to ensure safety on the bridge, vehicles would be weighed at the Jema Weight Station, near Kintampo and the Yapei Mobile Weigh Van before they are allowed on the bridge to ensure its longevity.

Reopening the bridge, the Minister for Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Attah affirmed that vehicles, which do not exceed the allowed load limit, can to use the bridges.

The Minister told managers of the weight stations that they would face the law if they take bribes and allow over loaded vehicles to use the bridge.

“The bridge has been firmly done and in good condition for usage, we apologize for any inconvenience the closure of the bridge cost the good people of Ghana, especially those who ply this stretch and we’re grateful for their cooperation too,” Mr Amoako Attah added.

In all, some GH¢4 million was used to repair the bridge.
