Buipewura Calls For Peace In Banda Community

Alhaji Iddris Mahmoud Maidoukyi II

The Buipewura, Abdullai Jinapo II, has urged the people in Wenchi Banda community to smoke the peace pipe and unify for the sake of development.

Speaking during this year’s Krubi festival on May 7, 2023 at Wenchi in the Bono Region, the chief expressed his sadness and disappointment over the ongoing divisions among the Wenchi Banda community and promised to work beyond human endurance to bring the factions together.

According to the Buipewura, he spoke about peace last year when he attended the event, but everything he said seems to have fallen on deaf ears as the division persists and peace is threatened.

He indicated that a divided nation cannot survive and urged all and sundry to put aside their differences and rally behind the Wenchi Banda chief and his elders.

Nana Okoforobuor Atuahene Damoah Atta Gyan II, who represented the Wenchimanhene, stated that the Wenchi Traditional Council will neither condone nor conspire with any group of individuals that will disturb the peace in the area for their own personal gain.

He said the Krubi holiday, like the Apoo festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Wenchi Traditional Area, has been celebrated once a year since time immemorial.

Nana Kokroko stated that the Wenchimanhene is aware of the Banda community’s enormous contribution to the growth of Wenchi, and as such, he will not sit back and let anyone upset the apple cart.

He stated that as long as he is the Omanhene of Wenchi Traditional Area, he will not allow any group other than the Wenchi Banda chief and his elders to host the Krubi event in Wenchi.

Lawyer Ben Abdallah Banda, Chairman of the Ghana Hajj Board and Coordinator of the Inner Cities and Zongo Development Secretariat at the Presidency, who represented Vice President Dr. Bawumia, expressed gratitude to the Banda chief and his elders for their continuous efforts to promote peace in the community.

He also urged people to forgive one another in order to achieve unity of purpose, which will lead to progress in the area.

He stated that both the Holy Quran and the Holy Bible preach forgiveness, and so the people of Wenchi Banda must strive for peace while avoiding ethnocentrism.

Lawyer Abdallah vowed that, God willing, all Banda people will gather together to enjoy the Krubi festival next year.
