2 Allegedly Lynched Over Witchcraft Accusation In Mion

Mma Safura, 40, and Mba Cherefo have allegedly been lynched at Zakpalsi in the Mion district of the Northern region.

Two were allegedly lynched over witchcraft accusations on May 7, 2023.

The deceased mother of seven Mma Safura is said to have been lynched at the Zakpalsi Naa Palace.

DGN Online gathered that Mba Cherefo has since been buried while Mma Safura’s body has been deposited at the Yendi hospital morgue.

Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), have condemned the barbaric act and appealed to the general public to desist from taking the law into their own hands.

They also called on the police to ensure that the perpetrators of the act are arrested and prosecuted to serve as a deterrent to others.

The current incident has raised concerns about the alleged killing of persons over suspected witchcraft.

The Parliament of Ghana is working on a witchcraft bill to help people accused of witchcraft.

The proposed Witchcraft Bill includes the prohibition of professional witchcraft or wizardry, prohibition against the accusation of witchcraft, participation in the declaration of a person as a witch or wizard, and a penalty against the chief or headman encouraging witchcraft.

The Bill has been necessitated due to the gruesome lynching of Madam Akua Denteh, a 90-year-old woman at Kafaba in the East Gonja municipality of the Savannah region.
