Vice Admiral Seth Amoama – CDS
The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, has debunked rumours suggesting that the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), Vice Admiral Seth Amoama has been sacked.
According to Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah, the rumour also suggested that he has been appointed to replace Vice Admiral Seth Amoama as the CDS.
“I have observed that there is some trending news that the Chief of the Defence Staff has been sacked and I have been appointed as the Chief of the Defence Staff. It is not true and must not be given any needed attention,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah further indicated that the rumours are aimed at distracting the Armed Forces from their work and therefore lose focus.
“This is a plan executed by our distractors to let us lose focus on what we are doing for our officers of the Armed Forces. Let us be focused on pursuing our dreams as officers of this country,” he added.
Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah made this known at the commissioning of a 40-bed accommodation facility at Burma Camp, Accra.
This rumour comes on the backdrop of calls by some security analysts on President Akufo-Addo to sack the Chief of the Defence Staff following the military swoop at Ashaiman on Tuesday, March 7.
According to them, the military invasion at Ashaiman was unpardonable, and therefore demanded of the President to publicly address the issues and dismiss some people from office to prevent any future occurrences. This has given the impression that the CDS, who has not been seen in public functions for sometime now, has been sacked.
Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah used the opportunity to commend Kwasi Amoo Serebour, the CEO of Paragon Company Limited for putting up the 20-unit, 40-bed accommodation as his contribution to the officers of the Ghana Armed Forces.
“We witness the commissioning of this beautiful edifice as Mr. Serebour’s contribution of having transit accommodation facilities for officers and soldiers, and we must commend him for this effort,” he said.
The newly commissioned facility, he said, will enhance the well-being of officers whose peacekeeping exploits helped Ghana gain recognition as a nation for Peace Support Operations on a global scale.
Mr. Serebour, on his part, also applauded the Armed Forces for their commitment to ensuring the country is safe from the threat of terrorists.
“I am very happy to have fulfilled my promise to the Ghana Armed Forces. This, I believe, will help ease any congestion faced by our gallant military men,” he stated.
The 40-bed storey building was named in honour of Maj. Gen. Oppong-Peprah for his years of commitment to the development of the Ghana Armed Forces.
