Cedi@60 Launch Postponed

The Bank of Ghana (BoG) has postponed the national launch of the Cedi@60 anniversary celebrations, officially scheduled for today, Friday, August 8, 2025.

In a statement issued and signed on Thursday August 7, 2025 by the Secretary to the Bank, Sandra Thompson, said the decision was taken due to the death of five prominent government officials and three members of Ghana Armed Forces in a military helicopter crash.

It said, “The Bank of Ghana refers to its notice Number BG/GOV/SEC/2025/19 DATED 14TH July 2025 on the National Launch of the cedi at 60 anniversary activities which was scheduled at Friday 8th August, 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre and regrets to announce that the launch has been postponed until further notice”

The Bank also extended its deepest condolences to President John Mahama, the government, the people of Ghana and the families of the departed.

“The Bank appreciates the understanding and cooperation of all its stakeholders and the general public during this period of national mourning” it added

Eight individuals including the Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed died in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday August 6, 2025.

The two were among six others including a presidential staffer and security personnel, who perished when a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region while on their way to Obuasi for an official assignment.
