The National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu, has called for measured discussions about the recent tragic accident which claimed eight lives.
This way, he said professional ethics will be upheld.
This was contained in a statement he issued on the helicopter accident. He also expressed condolences to the families of the eight persons who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter accident which occurred on Wednesday.
To the bereaved families, he said, “they are not alone in this moment of divine trial.”
In a statement, the spiritual leader described the fatal crash “as a national disaster of a collective grief irrespective of our political, ethnic and religious affiliations.”
He called for national resilience and unity in the face of this calamity, as he advised the government and the military not to despair because of the tragedy. He said, “the tragedy should rather be an opportunity to increase investment in the qualitative and quantitative improvement of the flying squadron for maximum safety, security and efficiency.”
The tragic crash of the Ghana Armed Forces helicopter at a forest near Adansi Brofoyedru in the Ashanti Region claimed the lives of Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah; Environment Minister, Alhaji Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Muniru Mohammed, NDC National First Vice Chairman, Dr. Samuel Sarpong; and former parliamentary candidate, Samuel Aboagye.
Also on board the ill-fated aircraft were Squadron Leader Peter Baafemi Anala, Flying Officer Manin-Twum Ampadu, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – all of whom perished in the crash.
