Fine
A 21-year-old cobbler, Emmanuel Oppong Arthur, has been fined GH¢180.00 by the Tarkwa circuit court for snatching a lady’s handbag which contained items worth GH¢570.
Arthur pleaded with the trial judge, Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, to be lenient with him since he had repented.
The court therefore, convicted him on his plea of being guilty to the charge of stealing.
Detective Inspector Clement Amoah told the court that the complainant, Sarah Boakye, is a teller at Ahobrasieye Cooperative Credit Union and resides at Asikafoamantem, a suburb of Asankrangwa, with the accused person.
He said on March 2, at about 2100 hours whilst the complainant was on her way to visit a friend at Kwasibokro, also at Asankrangwa, Arthur quickly bypassed her at the Catholic Primary School.
Detective Amoah said the accused person suddenly turned and confronted the complainant as the place was dark and forcibly took her handbag and left.
The complainant made a report to the police and the accused person was subsequently arrested.
Detective Amoah said Arthur admitted the offence in his investigation caution statement before an independent witness and led the police to an uncompleted building near the school where the stolen items, made up of sandals, vest, skirt, Lacoste T-shirt, identify card and an Infinix mobile phone were retrieved.
