Competence Not Tribalism Will Determine Election – Bawumia

Veep, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia

Vice-President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has taken exception to former President John Mahama’s ‘Akyem Sakawa Boys’ remark, stressing that the December polls will be determined by competence and not ethnocentric language.

Hitting back at the former President who is the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), he said, “You cannot win this election with tribalism, Ghana has gone beyond that.”

He was speaking during a stop at Gushegu in the Northern Region where he is currently on a working tour.

He challenged Mr. Mahama to show the people of Ghana his competence level in terms of what he was able to deliver to them.

“Mr. Mahama has resorted to tribalistic remarks because he cannot display his competence. We will not stand for tribalism,” he insisted.

Dr. Bawumia said Ghana needed a president who would unite the country and not one that would divide it like what the former President is doing.

The NDC flagbearer, he demanded, should apologize to the good people of Akyem unreservedly for tagging them ‘Sakawa Boys’.

The Parliamentary Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Gushegu Constituency, Lawyer Hassan Tampuli, addressing the people of Gushegu during the visit, assured the party that he would retain the seat for the party, come December 7.

“We are focused on our campaign and stand in readiness to fight tooth and nail to retain the Gushegu seat for the NPP with a resounding victory, come December 7, by the special grace of God,” he said.

He said the people of Gushegu had shown their appreciation for the massive developmental projects in the constituency by the government and would vote for the party to continue with the good works.
