Buem Seeing Record Road Projects

Nana Osei Boakye IV

A CHIEF in Jasikanin in the Oti Region has said it is unprecedented for four major roads in the Buem area in the region to be constructed simultaneously by any government in the history of the country.

Gyaasehene Nana Osei Boakye IV said however, that under the Akufo-Addo-led NPP administration the Hohoe-Jasikan road; Jasikan-Worawora road; Jasikan-Bodada road; Jasikan-Kadjebi-Pepesu road; and Jasikan town roads were all being worked on to accelerate the development of the area.

The chief made the observation at a durbar of chiefs when President Akufo-Addo visited Jasikan to inspect ongoing works on the Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu Road as part of his tour of the Volta and Oti regions.

“We are witnesses to the ongoing road projects. The Hohoe-Jasikan road; Jasikan-Worawora road; Jasikan-Bodada road; Jasikan-Kadjebi-Pepesu road; and Jasikan town roads are all being done. It is unprecedented that Buem has all these going on in a single year. This is indeed credit to our hardworking President. Thank you so much Nana, we appreciate you,” he noted.

He said the creation of the new region would accelerate development of the area, adding that President Akufo-Addo was the “courageous Ghanaian Head of State to make that dream a reality.”

“Nana, we shall forever remain grateful,” he emphasised.

He said policies such as Free SHS, Planting for Food and Jobs, Planting for Export and Rural Development, One District, OneFactory, One Village, One Dam, One Constituency, One Ambulance, restoration of allowances paid to teacher and nursing trainees were yielding great results that were visible for all to see.

The chief said “Bueman Senior High School has benefitted from an 800-capacity girls’ dormitory and a six-unit classroom block that will increase student intake and end the double tract system. The last time the President was here, the headmaster appealed for a school bus and a pick-up vehicle. The bus has been duly delivered.”

He said the President had shown “exemplary leadership” and indicated “you have carved a special name for yourself and your country and the world.”

Roads Inspection

President Akufo-Addo, after the durbar, inspected works on the 21.0-kilometre Nkonya Wrumpong – Kwamikrom road, which has been awarded to Messrs First Sky Construction Gh. Ltd., at a contract sum of GH¢58.8 million. It will be completed in 24-calendar months on April 30, 2022.

The 56.4-kilometre Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu road forms part of the Eastern Corridor which links Tema Port to Volta, Oti, North East and Upper East regions and the neighbouring countries of Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger.

Previous attempts to reconstruct the road failed. As a result, the entire 56.4-kilometre Jasikan-Dodo Pepesu road was packaged as an EPC contract under the Master Project Support Agreement (MPSA) to support priority projects in Ghana and awarded to Messrs Sinohydro Corporation Limited in August, 2018 at a cost of $45,335,208.43.

The project commenced on December 20, 2019, and was expected to be completed by December 19, 2022.
