Francis Albert Seth Nyonyo

The Council of State Member for the Volta Region, who is also the Alumni President of Mensah Sarbah Hall, University of Ghana, Francis Albert Seth Nyonyo, has called on all Ghanaians to actively indulge in the population census.

In his speech at Mensah Sarbah Hall, UG, during the Green Ghana Day Tree Planting exercise recently, the Council of State Member admonished all Ghanaians on the importance of the population census.

He mentioned that, “the census is a compass for development. Data generated from the counting exercises enables the formulation of national policies towards the progressive development of the country.”

“Policy formulators and advisors are constantly thinking around the clock to see how best wealth can be generated and distributed evenly across the demographical and geographical structure of the country to enable us to have an excellent and even standard of living for all Ghanaians, in and out of the country,” he added.

It is imperative that all Ghanaians involve themselves in the exercise, by cooperating with authorities assigned to conduct the census and also availing themselves to be counted. The Sarbah Hall Alumni President also mentioned that the youth should educate their peers and family about the importance of the census and encourage them to partake as well.

The population census of Ghana is conducted every 10 years as enshrined in the 1992 Constitution of Ghana.
