One person has been confirmed dead after daredevil gunmen attacked the Alabar Market, Kumasi, in the Ashanti Region yesterday in broad daylight.
The Islamic Friday congregational prayers were briefly disrupted as hoodlums caused a scare with their sporadic gunshots which eventually left one person dead.
There are speculations that the criminals ‒ about seven of them ‒ had initially targeted a bank in the neighbourhood but changed course and descended upon the black market operators at Alabar.
A video clip of the robbery operation depicted gun-wielding hoodlums fleeing the scene on at least three motorbikes amid indiscriminate firing.
Another version has it that the hoodlums had targeted one of the leading black market operators; but in their failed attempt to find him, they turned their attention on other innocent persons and in the process shot fatally an onion seller identified as Nuhu Fuseini, 54, who died later en route to the Manhyia District Hospital.

Later reports indicated that three of the robbers after the Alabar operation tried to stage another robbery at Santase but luck eluded them this time around as they were apprehended by security forces.
The three robbers who were arrested were reportedly sent to the Ashanti Regional Police Command for interrogation.
Reports said some of the victims of the Alabar robbery were called to identify them.
According to a police source, the three who were arrested include Hamza Nuhu, 22, who was shot in the right thigh by police during the pursuit and currently on admission at KATH under police guard.
The others are Salifu Iddrisu and Ali Razak, both 18.
