The late Manasseh Addison Sackey
Manasseh Addison Sackey, the Assembly Member for Tebrebe Electoral Area in the TarkwaNsuaemMunicipality of the Western Region who drowned while on a campaign tour, emerged victorious in last Tuesday’s District Level Elections in the electoral area.
It would be recalled that the assembly member, popularly known as ‘Teacher Obuor’, who was also the Deputy Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency, drowned in the Bonsa River in the area.
Information gathered indicated that theassembly member, who was also the headteacher of Aboponiso MA School, was on his way from the electoral area to Mile 10 and half, to campaign when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The incumbent assembly member, who was then seeking re-election, was traveling with four others in a canoe, which was said to be one of those he recently donated to the people in the area.
According to sources, on their way, the canoe capsized causing the four to fall into the river. Two of them managed to swim out of the river while the other two, including the assembly member drowned.
The assembly member, whose name and picture were still on the ballot paper even though dead, won the election with three votes difference between himself and the first runner up.
Manasseh Addison Sackey, the deceased, polled 860, to defeat Bernard Obeng – 857 and Michael Dompreh, who had 637.
While some of the residents said they were shocked at the victory of the deceased, others remarked, “It’s like he is still with us, guiding our community.”
“His untimely death threw the community into a state of mourning, but his unexpected victory has brought some kind of excitement in the area,” the residents pointed out.
