Gabon’s AFCON clash with Ghana descended into chaos at full-time with a mass brawl
Ghana captain Dede (Andre) Ayew has expressed gross disappointment in the entire Gabonese team for defying the Fair Play rule that resulted in the late equaliser for the Central Africans on Friday.
The Black Stars was heading for their first win in the ongoing tourney in Cameroon until the Gabonese cancelled the early lead courtesy Dede Ayew with three minutes away.
That resulted in a brawl on the pitch after the game, which ended up with a Ghanaian striker earning a three match ban from CAF.
And explaining what necessitated the protest on the pitch at the press conference after the game, he said “…A Ghanaian player was on the floor right? We had the ball, we put the ball out intentionally because our player was on the floor.”
He added, “Per the Fair Play rule, when play resumed, you give the ball back to Ghana, they didn’t, rather, they played and that resulted in their equaliser, the only chance they had in the game.
“I am disappointed in them, but no problem, we are going to win the last game and go through Insha Allah.
” Usually, the ball is given back to the team that kicks it off the pitch, we had the ball, Baba Rahman had the ball, he was alone, nobody was pressuring him, he could have held on to the ball, he could have moved forward with the ball.”
Ghana now has just a point after two games, losing 0-1 to Morocco in their Group C opener and drawing 1-1 with Gabon.
They face Comoros in a must win clash to make it to the next stage of the competition.
Meanwhile, the Black Stars landed in Garoua yesterday ahead of the Comoros clash tomorrow.
