The Don Simon Delight Fruit Mix Special Boxing last Friday night drew massive crowd from far and near to the Premier Beach Resort, Oshiyie, Kokrobite in Accra.
Arranged by Azumah Nelson Promotions and supported by West Africa and Gulf Company Limited (WAGCOL), distributors of Don Simon Delight Fruit Mix, it drew boxing personalities like Azumah Nelson, lke ‘Bazooka’ Quartey, Peter Zwennes, former Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) President, and Ayittey Powers among others.
It was in celebration and honouring of Ambassador Ray Quarcoo, former Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) President for his immense contribution to the development of boxing in Ghana, as well as the marking of his 88th birthday celebration.
Glowing tributes from dignitaries like Alhaji Sidiku Buari, and lawyer Zwennes poured in for Ambassador Quarcoo for playing major roles in almost all the world champions from Azumah, Bazooka, the Clottey brothers, Joshua and Emmanuel, the late Alfred Kotey, and Joseph Agbeko.
Boxing icon Azumah Nelson described the maiden edition of the special boxing as a huge success, saying, “It has been good, the level of competition was high, we will raise the bar moving forward. This is just the beginning, we will improve and make it better in our subsequent editions.”
The anticipated uncompromising main bout left the fans disappointed as Eric Asante handed Ben Adjawuda a first round knockout in their Lightweight contest.
David Tagoe suffered a fifth round disqualification against Godwin Tetteh in their Bantamweight contest, while Benjamin Lamptey (Daddy Lumba) and Azumah Mohammed settled for draw scores in their Super lightweight contest.
In the amateur category, Benjamin Lamptey overpowered Isaac Aple in their Bantamweight contest, with Wisdom Barnor defeating David Quaye in Bantamweight contest.
David Ankrah made light work of Henry Malm in their Super lightweight contest, while Baaki Adams defeated Desmond Pappoe. George Kumi also surrendered to Osborn Omanhene.
The juvenile bouts involving Godfred Coffie versus Solomon Aryeetey while Charles Paa Tee Quaye versus Mohammed Ablor Sowah, William Afofo versus Osborn Love Omanhene and Prince Larbi versus Ramford Laryea all ending in draws.
To sponsors of the competition, West Africa and Gulf Company Limited, supporting the youth in sports was a good cause.
