Don’t Denigrate the Military Uniform

Military officers in the country have been cautioned against acts that denigrate the military uniform; a sacred representation of their mandate and symbol of the state.

Commodore Samuel Angmor (Rtd), a former Director General in-charge of Training at the General Headquarters of the Ghana Armed Forces cautioned that under no circumstance should an officer use their military uniform for unlawful activities.

He said such acts does not only affect the perpetrator but the entire Military setup, security agencies in general and the nation as a whole. Commodore Angmor gave the cautioned when he addressed the passing out ceremony for some 335 Naval Recruits of the Naval Recruit Training School (NAVTRAC) at Nutekpor near Sogakofe in the South Tongu District of the Volta Region.

He also bemoaned the phenomena where some military personnel consider themselves above the law and other citizens, hence mistreat them. He therefore cautioned that all personnel should “Avoid unlawful and unauthorised use of the military uniform to molest innocent civilians.”

Cdre. Angkor, the Reviewing officer for the ceremony also entreated relatives of the new sailors not to use them for settle personal scores, but rather encouraged them to be professional in their chosen profession.

The recruits, comprising, 243 males and 93 females underwent 22 weeks of intensive and vigorous training to prepare them adequately physically and mentally for their navy career.

They were taken through exercises such as, physical training, foot and rifle drills, field drills, map reading, and weapon handling, among others. In the course of the training, 13 recruits who were part of the initial 350 enrolled, were dismissed for various acts of insubordination, while two others passed on.

Recruits who distinguished themselves during the training were awarded, with Agbetorku Richmond emerging the overall best Recruit, while Ameyam Patience being the Best Recruit in Academics.

The colourful ceremony, was witnessed by Flag Officer Commanding the Naval Training Command, Commodore Godwin L. Bessing, and several other dignitaries from sister security agencies, as well as the District Chief Executive for South Tongu, Mr. Seth Agbi.
