‘Don’t Divert Items To Orphanages To Your Private Homes’

Razak Oppong making the donation to the orphanage

THE BEREKUM East Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwaku Kankam, has warned caretakers in orphanages in the Bono Region to desist from diverting items donated for the use of children in homes for their personal use.

Mr. Kankam gave the warning last Friday when the Bono Regional Youth  Organizer, Razak Oppong, donated some items such as biscuits, canned  drinks, tins of tomato, eggs, bags of rice, gallons of oil, tins of milo and other products to the World of Friends International Orphanage in the Berekum East Constituency.

Presenting the items to the head of the home, Mr Kankam did not mince words when he said it is an open secret that teachers (caregivers) usually divert items meant for children used in orphanages to their homes, so he warned the teachers at the World of Friends not to divert items donated to the school by the regional youth organizer, but asked them to take good care of the children and feed them with the items.

The NPP Youth Organizer, who donated the items to the orphanage, said he was acting upon the instruction by the Holy Quran for the well-to-do to have compassion on the underprivileged, especially in the month of Holy Ramadan.

He said “this is not the first time our party is making donations to homes in the region and is not going to be the last time”. He urged the teachers and children to have faith in the NPP government since they have good intentions for the underprivileged hence the introduction of the Free SHS for every Ghanaian child irrespective of their background to education.

The Head of the Home, Samuel Antapim, thanked the party for supporting the orphanage with the items. He assured the party that the items would be used for the benefit of the children.

The caretaker of the home, Serwaa Akoto, said since the establishment of the orphanage in 1992, they have raised children who have completed universities, nursing and teacher training colleges and contributing their quota to the Ghanaian society.
