Dua Lipa
British pop star, Dua Lipa, has filed a lawsuit against Samsung Electronics, accusing the tech giant of using her image without permission to market its television sets.
According to court documents filed in a California federal court, the singer is seeking at least $15 million in damages over the alleged unauthorised use of her likeness on Samsung TV packaging.
The lawsuit claims Samsung used a copyrighted image titled “Dua Lipa – Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024” on cardboard boxes for televisions sold in the United States, creating the impression that the singer endorsed the products.
Lipa’s legal team argued that the company benefited commercially from her image without her approval or compensation.
“Ms Lipa’s face was prominently used for a mass marketing campaign for a consumer product without her knowledge,” the lawsuit stated.
The singer also accused Samsung of copyright infringement, trademark infringement and violating her publicity rights.
According to the filing, Lipa became aware of the alleged infringement in June 2025 and demanded that the company stop using her image, but Samsung allegedly continued to use the packaging.
Samsung, however, denied intentionally misusing the singer’s image. In a statement, the company said the content had been provided by a third-party partner who assured them that all necessary permissions had been obtained.
“We have actively sought and remain open to a constructive resolution with Ms Lipa’s team,” Samsung said.
The case has drawn significant attention online, with social media users reportedly referring to some of the television packages as “Dua Lipa TV Boxes.”
