Late highlife legend, Ebo Taylor, was laid to rest in his hometown of Saltpond on Saturday, August 1, with family, colleagues, industry players and dignitaries gathering to bid him a final farewell.
Ebo Taylor, who died on February 7, 2026, at the age of 90, was honoured for his immense contribution to Ghanaian music during a solemn funeral service attended by some of the country’s biggest names in the entertainment industry.
Among those present were highlife veterans Gyedu-Blay Ambolley and Pat Thomas, reggae musician, Rocky Dawuni, Deputy CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Abeiku Santana, representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, traditional rulers and other guests.
The funeral also attracted executives of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), who joined mourners to pay their respects to the celebrated guitarist, composer and producer.
Tributes described Ebo Taylor as one of the architects of modern highlife and Afrobeat, whose music influenced generations of artistes in Ghana and across the world. His career, which spanned more than six decades, earned him international recognition and helped elevate Ghanaian highlife onto the global stage.
Family members, friends and colleagues celebrated his remarkable life and enduring musical legacy, recalling his dedication to preserving and promoting Ghanaian music.
Ebo Taylor is remembered as one of Ghana’s finest musicians, with a catalogue of timeless songs that continues to inspire both established and emerging artistes. His influence on highlife and Afrobeat remains one of the defining chapters in the country’s musical history.
