Daniel Nsala Wakpal, Matthew Nyindam
The Electoral Commission (EC), has announced a rerun of the Kpandai Constituency Parliamentary Election on December 30, 2025.
The announcement follows a Tamale High Court judgment on November 24, 2025 for a rerun of the election within 30 days and the subsequent declaration of the Kpandai seat as vacant through a formal notification by the Clerk of Parliament on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
In a press release issued yesterday and signed by the EC Deputy Director of Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Department, Fred Tetteh, the Commission stated that the rerun will be contested only by the three candidates who participated in the original 2024 Parliamentary Election for the Kpandai Constituency.
This restriction, it said, is to ensure the rerun is a direct continuation of the disputed poll, focusing on the same contenders.
The EC thus urged the public to take note of the new election date and assured of its commitment to the core principles of transparency, fairness, and integrity in conducting electoral exercise.
The 2024 Kpandai Parliamentary Election saw Matthew Nyindam, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), declared winner with 27,947 votes (53.47%) against Daniel Nsala Wakpal of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who garnered 24,213 votes (46.33%).
The NDC candidate challenged the December 7, 2024 parliamentary election results at a High Court in Tamale.
The High Court judgment, delivered on November 24, 2025, had annulled the entire Kpandai election and ordered a rerun within 30 days.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Kpandai Constituency, Matthew Nyindam, has filed an application at the Supreme Court seeking to quash the judgment of the High Court, Commercial Division in Tamale, which annulled his parliamentary election victory.
