Winners with the tournament planning committee, patrons, chairman and some members of the TOR Tennis Club

Frederick Egyir and his doubles partner Eugene Hammond stunned Thomas Ohene Effeh and Jonathan Quaye to win the 2019 Babolat Doubles Open.

Egyir and Hammond controlled their play from back of the court with some fluid backhand and some heavy forehand to win 6-4, 7-6.

The three-day tourney started with a launch and balloting at the TOR Tennis Club House, with Ghacem Tennis Club and Tema Tennis Club also hosting other matches.

After each team took its serve to reach to 4 all, Frederick Egyir and Eugene Hammond displayed some neat touches at the net to break their opponent and won the set 6-4. The second set followed the same pattern as Egyir and Hammond continued to show their superiority and won the second set 7-6.

In the mixed doubles final, 2016 winner Thomas Ohene Effeh picked Kate Coleman as his partner for the tourney, which saw them defeating defending champions Andrews Adu Appiah and Yvonne 6-4,6-1.

In the social two men’s doubles, Fiifi Nkansah and Kwabena Awuku Asabre defeated Yaw Akotuah and Alfred Okang 6-1, 6-0. Kate Coleman paired with Afia Oforiwaa to oust Emefa Nukpe and Deladem Tamson 7-5,6-4 in the ladies doubles.

Ismaila Lamptey, the CEO of Baboo Sports and official rep of Babolat in Ghana, who is also the tournament co-coordinator, said, “I am impressed with the high level of play exhibited.”
